The firm
Our client is a fast-growing, tech-enabled professional services group. It offers audit and accounting, tax, payroll and HR, outsourcing and advisory services to clients in the UK and abroad. It helps businesses manage their people and their finances, and uses technology to keep things running smoothly.
The firm keeps its structure simple and its relationships personal. It puts real effort into developing its people, and believes they’re the reason it succeeds.
The role
This is a senior position in the Business Advisory team. You’ll own a client portfolio, lead a team, and help the partner group set the department’s direction and deliver on it.
Key responsibilities
- Own a portfolio of clients and build relationships with them and their wider professional networks, spotting where else you can help.
- Oversee the team so every client deadline and request is met.
- Take responsibility for client work from start to finish, on budget, including any accounting support needed.
- Handle the more technical accounting work yourself. Sign off final accounts, produce detailed reports and make sure client queries are answered promptly.
- Deliver specialist advisory and project work tailored to each client.
- Keep your technical knowledge current. Research new legislation and turn it into advice and opportunities for clients.
- Work with external advisers, such as lawyers and bankers, where needed.
- Coach and develop the team, and delegate work at the right level so people grow.
- Be part of the management team: help run day-to-day operations and meet financial, utilisation and deadline targets.
- Know the firm’s wider services and look for ways to offer more to clients.
What you’ll bring
- ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA or an equivalent qualification
- Experience in a similar role, managing a client portfolio with strong client engagement
- Experience of both technical compliance and advisory work
- Experience supervising and developing staff
- Good working knowledge of cloud accounting systems such as Xero, and experience putting technology-led solutions in place for clients
- A problem-solver who makes recommendations and sees them through
- Strong interpersonal skills, with clients and colleagues alike
- A growth mindset and a real appetite for learning
